Furniture Refinishing

What makes us different…

Many shops that refinish use a water based product to strip wood furniture which causes the wood to swell and glue joints to break…we use a chemical based stripper that does no damage to the wood at all and leaves the pieces clean of all residues and gives you that perfect surface for re-staining. Some try to sand off finish which looks like it works but really are pushing the finish into the pores of the wood and leaves the pieces unable to take the stains and finishes properly and will leave you with an uneven look.

We do not use stains off the shelf we make our own stains from a clear base and customize each stain for each job. When finishing the piece we use finishes with a high concentrate of solids so the finish will last much longer than the finishes you normally will find on furniture you would purchase in a store.

We specialize in antique oak furniture and pride ourselves on a formula that James Betsch developed to restore antiques oak pieces to their original stain. Many customers have ask for the formula but though we sell you some of the stain the formula is our family secret.

People often ask why glue the chair I just buy a new one. Answer because the next one will come unglued too. What’s different about what we do is the glues we use and that we clamp the piece for 24 hrs using 6 – 8 clamps per chair. Factory glued chairs are usually glued with a white glue and a small nail to hold it together while it dries …this method will always fail eventually the glue dries out and the joints come loose. While our glue is drying it is expanding in to the pores of the wood and making a bond that is almost impossible to break apart.

We also work with a large host of experts in their field that help us with caning, upholstering and turnings that need to be made.   Everyone we use has done work for us for years and their workmanship is of the highest quality. This enables us to assist you on get your pieces from beginning to end with ease.

Hi Cathy,

Here is a testimonial to your services that we hope you can use.  As Billy Crystal used to say on Saturday Night Live, “ They look “MAH-VELOUS!”

We are singing the praises of Catherine Raynor of Morin’s Fine Furniture & Refinishing. She and her worthy crew just completed a refinishing job of our kitchen cabinets, and they look spectacular. Formerly, the cabinets (high quality, custom cherry) had been pickled, a painting process popular in the 1990’s. Since we moved into our house six years ago, we had discussed the need to have them refurbished in some way. The pickled finish had become discolored and worn over time and we were daunted by the prospects of trying to restore them to their original cherry grain.. Finally, after mush deliberation, we called Cathy, who came to assess the job, to describe the process involved, and to give us an estimate of the total project cost. Upon her first viewing of the cabinets, even Cathy was very dubious about the success she would have in refinishing them. However, a test run on a door sample allayed our collective doubts. Needless to say, we are thrilled with the finished product. Our “new” cabinets are gorgeous and give the kitchen a whole new perspective. In addition to our satisfaction with the cabinets, working with Cathy and her group of experienced professionals was a pleasure. They always notified us ahead of time about work schedules, explained everything to us in understandable detail, were respectful of our home during the process, were friendly, prompt and cheerful, and were neat beyond belief!! Our experience with Cathy and Morin’s was easy and rewarding at all junctures. We heartily recommend their services for any project that you might be considering.
